But by day, I make the cars, and by night I make the bars.

Dear God:

If you take Pat Robertson, too, I’ll start going to church.

If it’s painful, I’ll become a priest.

I think we should all resist the urge to frame national policy debates around what crazy fuckers do.  We already do too much of this; the main argument for not leaving Iraq, for example, seems to be that Islamic fundamentalists will think we are pussies.  Islamic fundamentalists are insane.  I don’t give a damn what they think.  It does not bother me that they think I am a pussy.  Similarly, I don’t want our gun policy shaped by what lunatics do.

promises are a bit like bullets, reckless, fast, aimed in thousands of directions.
i shall be thinking about my promises this week, to understand how to tame them, how to create order in the chaos of all the things that i wish to do, need to do, have to do for those whom i care about.

I remember a professor telling us about a country (I think it was PNG) that valued the plump feminine, WOMANLY body…. until television and Western programming were introduced. Within SIX MONTHS, the incidence of eating disorders went from ZERO to higher than the rate of eating disorders within the US today.

It’s sick. And it’s why despite how disappointed I am with how out of shape I’ve become, I will not compromise my eating healthily. I will enjoy my privilege of overabundance.
